The Greenkeeper from Magdalene Fields Golf Club in Berwick has demonstrated the importance the club places on safety when he sat a nationally recognised in Health and Safety qualification, tailored to concentrate on chemical safety on golf courses. He recently received notification of having achieved the award following completion of the training delivered in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Greenkeeper Peter Baume completed training organised by Marriner Business Support and which utilised materials from the National Greenkeepers’ Association, to supplement the framework training material. This completed a series of courses funded by the Club and also supported via Northumberland Business Services Limited. The Club have been working to ensure that all staff receive appropriate training, and risks to the safety of staff, club members, visitors and public who may walk on or around the course are identified and controlled.

Peter said “having been working at Magdalene Fields for over 18 months, I know that the Club take health and safety seriously and recognises their responsibilities to protect the safety of employees and those visiting the course. Secretary John Gall and myself know how relevant this training has been, and because it was designed to concentrate on golf courses and was delivered in an enjoyable and entertaining way it made the achievement of all the awards a pleasure”
