This qualification is designed to provide learning which is relevant to all food business environments and meets the National Occupational Standards, providing an Award which will be recognised by any business operator, in Scotland, North East England and throughout the United Kingdom. Delivery of this award is within a flexible syllabus which enables Marriner Business Support to tailor content to meet the specific needs of a business. This qualification is designed to help improve the workplace culture for occupational health and safety by making sure the principles of risk assessment can be properly understood.

The qualification would be useful for anyone at work and particulalry those involved in undertaking risk assessments. However many employees may not undertake risk assessments themselves but will contribute to the process and will always be expected to act to protect the health and safety of themselves and others.

Outline Programme

The training will provide candidates with the ability to contribute towards the maintenance of a safe work environment and support those responsible for undertaking the formal risk assessment, including an understanding of the legal requirements.

As part of that understanding of risk assessment this will include;

  • Hazards, risks and control measures
  • the five steps of risk assessment
  • the heirarchy of control
  • risk assessment review and record keeping

The training is delivered over one day with a multiple choice examination upon completion.

Although there is no required prerequisite for the training completion of a Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace is recommended to provide a good understanding of the area.

Upon completion of the training candidates may wish to consider progression to a Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment and Practice, which provides greater depth for those undertaking the risk assessments themselves.
