This qualification has been designed for those entering the workplace for the first time. It provides a basic awareness of key safety issues and the role everyone should play in keeping themselves and others free from harm at work.

Who needs the qualification?

Anyone netering the workplace for the first time - either as part of a work experience programme or at the start of employment - and those starting a new job in food premises (as part of an induction programme).

 

Why is this training important?

Employers are legally responsible for providing health and safety training to their employees, and to supervise, train or instruct employeesas appropriately required for their work duties. This qualification provides a good starting point from which more detailed health and safety and/or food safety training can follow.

Learninig outcomes

  • An appreciation of the importance of health and safety in food premises
  • To be able to identify the range of hazards associated with food premises and understand how to spot them
  • An understanding of the role of reporting procedures
  • An understanding of the importance of risk control measures in place and to be able to identify ways to reduce riskdor eliminate hazards.

Facts

Duration: half day programme

Assessment: 30 minute multiple choice examination with pass mark of 10 from 15 questions.
