Golf Course Safety takes top marks

The Club Secretary and Greenkeeper from Magdalene Fields Golf Club in Berwick have demonstrated the importance the club places on safety when they sat a Nationally recognised in Health and Safety qualification, tailored to concentrate on safety on courses and their clubhouse. The pair recently received notification of having achieved the award following completion of the training delivered in Berwick-upon-Tweed during April.

Secretary John Gall and Greenkeeper Peter Baume completed training organised by Marriner Business Support and which utilised materials from the National Greenkeepers Association, to supplement the framework training material. Funding support was accessed via Northumberland Business Services Limited and the Club are working to ensure that all staff receive appropriate training, and risks to the safety of staff, club members, visitors and public who may walk on or around the course are identified and controlled.

John Gall said “having been recently appointed to the position of Secretary, I know that the Club take health and safety seriously and recognises their responsibilities to protect the safety of employees and those visiting the course. Peter and I know how relevant this training has been, and because it was designed to concentrate on golf courses and was delivered in an enjoyable and entertaining way it made the achievement of the award a pleasure”.
